The aroma starts with a molasses and caramel malt nose with a hint of alcohol, followed by a full-bodied, complex flavor dominated by roasted dark malts. A bit of oatmeal provides a pleasing smoothness to the body, but the finish is the roastiness of a traditional Imperial Stout.

On tap at the source.

A - Pitch black pour with dark cream colored lacing.

S - Gentle chocolate malt base with a slight bit of char and oat on the nose.

T - Starts out with a slight bit of chocolate char sweetness, some earthy cherry notes, and ends with a pleasing level of chocolate char bitterness to scrub things away and lingers on the palate for a good few minutes after the sip.

M - Big medium body a leaves a thin sugary residue on the lips.

O - A really nice sipper. This would be a great candidate to age in a barrel for several months.

On draught at the brewery. Served in a snulip glass. It was too cold when served and I let it warm for about 20 minutes before drinking. Its color is a dark walnut with mahogany hues and a thin, light khaki head and sheen of lacing. On the nose there is burnt coffee, chocolate, oatmeal, char, and black cherry. The taste of this Stout really opens as it warms in the glass and includes oatmeal, caramel, baker's chocolate, burnt coffee grounds, cherry, and earthy char. It should be allowed to warm and breathe. It's medium-bodied with moderate carbonation and you can feel the warmth of the 9.2% ABV. Overall, this may be the biggest Oatmeal Stout I've had and it's well-conceived and executed. It's a really good Stout and I recommend it.
