Poured from a tap into Belgium style snifter stem glass in January 2020.
Appearance: Very dark black with a thick dark tan head. Head was about 3 fingers high, and lasted for a few a minutes, longer than most porters or stouts. It left a little lacing on the glass, and ended with a thin tan head still on the beer.
Smell: Very nice aroma of coffee, dark fruit like cheeries, and caramel. There is also some cocoa, chocolate, and some other sweet aromas like black licorice, but overall the coffee and chocolate dominate the others. It is a very nice balance of multiple aromas.
Taste: There is a nice balance between the coffee and chocolate. There is some dark fruit flavors like dates or cherries, as well as smokie roasted flavors, some caramel and vanilla flavors, and a little amount of bitter hop flavors to enhance the taste and add some complexity. There is a medium alcohol presence, which matches the 7.5%, but it is balanced nicely by the coffee and sweetness. The taste is an excellent mix.
Mouth-feel: Thick like liquid licorice, but with a smooth body. Not overly smooth like a Milk Stout.
This is a very good, complex, Baltic Porter, and it has a variety of flavors that adds a nice complexity to the beer. It is very smooth and enjoyable to drink. It has more variety of flavors than other porters. The sweetness and coffee flavors are a nice balance. This is one of (if not the) best porters I have ever tasted. I will definitely buy this again.
