Poured into a Gulden Draak tulip. Pours a dark reddish brown with ruby highlights and a somewhat fizzy two finger khaki head that nevertheless has great retention and thick lacing. Aroma of candi malt, Belgian yeast, dried and fresh plums and clove; spicy. Flavor is candi and dry biscuit malt, Belgian yeast, dried plums, figs, raisins and a hint of cherry. Starts slightly sweet but finishes semi-dry with lingering toffee notes and dark fruit. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. This is a well made, full flavored BDSA. The malt is a little more biscuit than traditional, but that adds a bit to the richness of the flavor. Good fruit character, once again leaning to something like an old ale, but with the expected plummy notes. Body is excellent and creamy. ABV well covered. This apparently won some prizes and justifiably so. A worthy big domestic Belgian style ale. I'm 3 for 3 on the bottles I got from the brewery and have been quite pleased.

Dark ruby brown body. Decent fuzzy off white head that dissipates to wet fizz in the corners. Nose is more melanoidin-reminiscient than I expected. I was expecting more dark stone fruits, whereas this feels almost more like a dark german than a dark belgian. Some cola and sweet and fruit. Taste carries some of the same characters but just laces them with such a rich bold depth that it really elevates. Clean and smoothe with a good amount of carbonation, this is an interesting one that I find myself quite enjoying.

Midwatch pours a copper bronze, with minimal head. The smell is dark fruits. The taste is similar, but almost like a fruitcake. It's a touch sweet, but not overly so. This is basically a pretty classic BDSA, although it doesn't quite have the same yeasty character as some. It's not in the same ballpark with the greats, but it's quite respectable and worth looking for.
