Poured into a Fremont small snifter. Pours a medium to dark reddish orange with half finger, light khaki head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of mildly caramel malt, plums, raisins, light stone fruit and a hint of oak. Flavor is dry caramel malt, vanilla, oak, dried light stone fruit, raisins; oaky vanilla finish with some wood astringency and lingering dry caramel. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Delivers on its promise of an English style barleywine with distinct oak barreling character. The malt is a little on the thinner side, which brings out the oaky vanilla. There is typical dark dried fruit, but a little mild tartness in the finish, perhaps from the yeast that tastes a bit like their Belgian yeast. A light, but solid English style barleywine.
