Poured into a Celebrator pokal. Got it recently at the brewery, but the bottle is dated 2019; winter holiday theme on the label, so I assume brewed very late 2019. Pours a medium to dark orange brown with a quarter finger khaki head with great retention and lacing. Aroma of biscuit and mildly caramel malt, dates, raisins; a bit boozy. Flavor is dry caramel and biscuit malt, dates, figs, raisins, light dried plum, lightly nutty. Semi sweet, rich, dried dark fruit finish. Medium bodied with light to moderate creaminess. As malty as one would hope for a doppelbock, but with somewhat deeper flavor character and more complex fruit notes. The finish is very full and satisfying. Although the aroma had some alcohol burn, the big ABV is well covered in the flavor by the fruity malt. One of best tasting doppelbocks I've had, which is a bit unfair because this does have the high ABV, but it's till fine. I'm going to have to get this again.
