All right, first of all, where in the hell is the English Barleywine category? I swear BA, jeez. Anyways, this is literally listed as an English barleywine in the commercial tug job that was provided in the festival notes at the Bistro's Barrel Aged festival 2018.
Comes in an amberish copper color with 1/5" off white head on top. Aroma dropped a hefty bourbon tone to it. Beyond that the characteristics from the barrel are relatively subtle, usual suspects, vanilla, caramel, toffee, wood.
Oh taste, this is where this beer excels. Its a sipper, but not out of sheer brutal strength. All those subtleties in the nose come out a little stronger on the tongue. Very evident this beer was aged for 2 years in barrels, lots of bourbon on it. Compared to Central Waters BBBW, this is a stronger, bigger kind of barrel aged barleywine. The warming sensation is pleasant, its a very obvious English barleywine given the lack of hopping that is appropriate for this beer and style. I really dug it.
