With the increase in strength comes the difficulty in dryness, sourness and sharpness. That's the usual tradeoff when moving to imperial status for any style, and its a tradeoff that the brewers of Streetside are happy to celebrated. With the generous additions of montmorency cherries and vanilla, the smoothie character of their imperial berlinerweiss has us feeling a lot cooler about that choice.

Pale mauve and caught in a classic wheaten haze, Be A Lot Cooler If You Did crowns with a frothy and spritzy head. Its tangy, fruity scent has underlying notes of sourness but also a soothing character of heavy cream and pulled candy. The richness of malt and fruit sugars intertwine on the early palate for a pastry sweet taste with lifesaver and sourdough.

As the sweetness and breadiness extends deeper on the middle palate than usual for the traditional sour German ale, the rising sourness adds a piquant acidity to loosen the malt's grip and to turn the tide toward sourness. Crabapple, cider, white wine, white grape, gooseberry and lime all frame the undercarriage of taste while the additions of cherries provide a broad overcast of juiciness, succulence and sense of robustness. A late balance of smooth cream begins to balance the sourness ever so slightly for a tart and true taste of sangria.

Medium bodied for sour ale but yet lighter than most others, a return of sourdough on the late palate keeps the session smooth, soft and playful. A light bite of vodka accompanies the short linger of sour into a brief afterglow of cherry lifesavers and cream once more.

Very good Berliner Weiss. Wasn’t as tart as I expected. The color is very misleading. Great community share. Beer it does the body good, especially a shared.
