Loosely based on a German styled gose, the clean lactic acids of Streetside Brewery's sour ale uses the pieces and parts of tartness, alcohol and salinity to build a characterful margarita-like beer for ultimate thirst quenching, refreshing and highly drinkable flavor.
Like a golden riesling, the sparkling nature of the ale has the appearance of champagne early but then a still white wine late. Its trickle of lace brings a piquant but rounded scent of citrus, tropical and orchard fruit along with a faint drift of earthen burlap and sourdough. Those sourdough characteristics bleed onto the early palate along with the sweetness of agave, honeysuckle and saltwater taffy.
Sweetness is low lying and fleeting as the ale crosses the middle palate. Meanwhile the fruity sourness washes the tastebuds with a juicy taste of guava, lime, lemon, crabapple, sour white grape, gooseberry and even a hint of passionfruit and green papaya. A brisk salinity of sea water blends with a cidery acidity for a clean but rounded taste that's as satisfying as it is refreshing.
Tequilla and oak come with a piquant spice late on the palate as the ale finishes peppery, firmly sour and moderately dry with the tethers of sourdough coming in a brief aftertaste soon after the fruit has dissipated.
