Our newest iteration of Black is Beautiful was aged in Laird’s Apple Brandy barrels for 16 months; during this time, the beer picked up beautiful baked apple and chocolate notes. We decided, instead of using the coffee that we had used in previous batches, to take the composite parts and recreate those flavors with each ingredient. Using espresso roast coffee, a blend of different coconuts, and toasted macadamia, we brought all the flavors together in a harmonious blend of coffee shop flavors. As always, with the Black is Beautiful beer initiative, we will be donating a portion of the proceeds to Revolution Dance Theater.

16 ounce can, canning date of 2/7/24 stamped on the label. Served in a snifter, the beer pours dark brown/black with about an inch tan head that didn't stick around for too long. Small amount of lacing. I like the aroma, the brew smells like apple brandy, vanilla, chocolate, coffee, roasted malt, coconut and macadamia nuts. For the most part I think the taste is similar to the aroma, but with the addition of some dark bread, oak, caramel and burnt/charred malt flavors. It's a sweeter tasting brew, almost too sweet for me. Mouthfeel/body is full, it's coating and creamy with a moderate amount of carbonation. I thought this was pretty good overall, although I would have rated it higher if the sweetness was dialed down somewhat. Definitely worth a try if you get the chance!
