Served on tap at the brewery in a snifter.
Look: Opaque black, with a very small brown head that quickly reduced to a small foam ring that left some finely-bubbled lacing.
Nose: Bourbon, sweet cherry, cooked brown sugar.
Taste: The attack is VERY sweet — cloying, actually — and otherwise follows the nose, adding pecans. The finish brings some relief from the overwhelming sweetness, with bourbon and a bit of bitterness from the dark roast.
Mouthfeel: Very thick; just a bit shy on carbonation.
Overall: If you like your sweet pecan pie even sweeter, you might like this as a dessert beer — the beer being a sweet dessert all by itself. Apart from the finish, it’s really too sweet — more pastry than beer.
