this is cool on a couple of levels, my first from these guys. i had no idea it was only 3% abv when i was drinking it, had to look that up, so its not light on body or flavor, and for a style thats normally as malt forward and robust as a scottish ale, its impressive that its not obviously low alcohol, it doesnt taste stripped down at all to me. lighter brown in color with a short tan head on it, a little haziness, but nice carbonation as i drink it. aroma is earthy from the grain, less sweet than some, with hints of graham cracker and flattering oxidation, lightly herbal too which is unique and adds some depth. the flavor is similar, a little oxidation to this for sure, but drier than most of these, bready, bran muffin and toasted bread crusts, light brown sugar, wet cardboard, and almost a tea-like complexion in the finish. earthy and european on the yeast too, which gives this some authenticity to me. high carbonation makes it seem lively for the style, and i seriously never know this is as low alcohol as it is, which is a win i think. solid first beer from these guys for me, if it was full strength it would almost be less impressive, more generic and such. its a fine scotch ale, but its cool that its so drinkable in terms of alcohol. i have not seen this style reduced in this way before that i can recall...
