22oz bottle. Poured out an opaque, jet-black color with a small, light brown head of foam. It left sticky rings of lace on the glass. It smelled of chocolate, vanilla and toasted coconut. Sweet chocolate taste with vanilla, coconut and some spice.

This was a pretty good chocolate porter, if maybe a touch heavy for my liking. You can pump this up and age it and it would be a really good barrel-aged beer, or lighten it up a bit and call it an English porter, but this one sort of got stuck in the middle. Flavor was very good, but the style was just a bit off for me.

On tap, poured into a 10oz snifter.
Appearance- black, no light coming in; thin beige head that leaves just a scattered amount of lacing!
Smell - dark and milk chocolate and cocoa powder.
Taste - dynamic chocolate and cocoa flavors with a hint of mocha!
Feel - medium to big body; robust, but very easy drinking.
Overall - really enjoyed this beer, but at $8 for a 10oz snifter, I likely won't have this again.

i liked all the beer here pretty well, clever and very well executed for first batches of each on the big system, but i think this was the winner from my little session at this place. its a creamy rich and really uniquely flavored porter, not too big to be drinkable, but robust enough on its own to stand up to the additives, really nicely done. i like that the added chocolate element is so complimentary to the chocolate elements in the beer already, like dry cocoa and bitter nib types together, never at all sweet, even when the vanilla enters the mix, it stays mellow. easy to over flavor a beer like this, there are countless examples of that out there, but this is just enough on all levels, very drinkable, not to much coconut either. i see this beer as sort of foundational for these guys moving forward, it would work in various barrels, it would work with other things like nuts, cinnamon, or anise. also one of the only darker beers they had working while i was there, which should give it a bit of a wider appeal with anyone seeking brown ale through stouts. good stuff.
