In 1745 at the Oakley Arms in England there was the first recorded meeting of an Odd Fellows Lodge. A fraternal brotherhood was born , a family of Odd Fellowship dedicated to 'visit the sick , relieve the distressed , bury the dead and educate the orphan.' A secret society who's members walk amongst us today and are dedicated to their community , country and fellow mankind. The Odd Fellow IPA celebrates the Odd Fellow English heritage with a British style IPA. Bold yet easy to drink this beautifully balanced 'session' IPA pays homage to a proud tradition of the Odd Fellows.

Poured into a Seattle Beer Week pint glass. Pours a medium to dark bronze amber with a big three finger light khaki head with great retention and thick lacing; look nice. Aroma of biscuit malt, brown bread, rye, grassy hops. Flavor lightly toasted biscuit malt with hints of caramel, dry grassy hops, lemon citrus, brown bread. Finishes with biscuit malt and grassy hops and lingering almost resinous hop bitterness with a slight lemon tang. Medium bodied with light creaminess. Overall this hits the English IPA profile well, but with a bit more robust and almost toasty malt (in flavor as well as color) and an odd light citrus tang in the finish. The malt and hops are well balanced and although I think this was more robust than a traditional English IPA, that is a positive factor. The mild citrus is a slight off note. It's nice to return to the English IPA style, especially during fresh hop season, when almost everything available is an American style IPA. This also reminds me how great it is to have a nice malty ale once in a while. It looks like Salt Spring Island Ales leans toward English style, so I will be trying them again.

British Columbia review dump.
A- Tallboy can releases a deep amber red brew into a becher. A thick and creamy off white head rises to a finger high. Good retention as a full island rests on the beer coating most of the glass in lacing.
S- Hops in the foreground with freah pine and orange citrus zest notes making way for a fairly strong malt profile. The grains are bready, toasty and bring a fair amount of caramel Crystal malt flair.
T- The beer opens up with a medium strength dose of hops which mainly bring pine and sweet orange notes but also give off floral, earthy and spicy hints. A strong malty counterbalance with nutty, toasted, caramel, bready and toffee notes. Seems like Crystal malts are used here. Slight yeast influence with pale fruit esters and bread hints.
MF- Luscious and smooth medium-heavy IPA body. The texture is soft and creamy and it really sits on the palate nicely. Medium bitterness in the finish.
A pine and citrus forward IPA that has plenty of grain flavors which almost match the hops in strength. The malts and hops are harmonious but in the end there isn't a signature flavor here that really stands out.
