Deep, dark brown where only the faintest of light passes through the extreme edge of the glass. Nearly no head, and what's there fades to tiny rim bubbles. No lace.
I get semisweet chocolate to the nose. There's a surprising whiff of soy sauce in the background.
The body leans thin but the carbonation is also low. The malt is a combination of darker chocolate (not quite Baker's) and burnt black patent malt. Think thin stout.

On tap at the Mallard Cottage in St John's. Served rather colder than ideal. Pours a dark brown - almost black with a thin off white head that dissipated to leave a thin ring around the glass which left a light lacing. Light aromas of caramel. Flavours of coffee, dark toast, molasses. Full in the mouth. Some unexpected alcohol on the back.
