another one that calls itself gluten free but doesnt feel severely compromised, again i think the laws are different about calling it that over here, but this is decent, the only bellfield beer i had while in scotland, but crisp and solid, nice with heavier food. its pretty, golden blonde and bright, with over an inch, close to two, in my glass from the can, great big bubbles, peppy the whole drink, clean. the nose is a little bready, like overly grainy for a beer this light, not sweet to me and also not as obviously pils malt driven as i expect in a basic pils, maybe thats where the gluten free aspect comes in with this one, but its more of a richer barley personality, not even all that european, toasty and earthy but not crackery and crisp, not that clean, but it does seem like noble hops here and the lagering is tidy enough to my sniffer. the flavor is mild, simple, and fine, somewhat agricultural, earthy in a cool way from the grain but again less obviously pils-like on the malt than anticipated here, mild late hop bitterness, some body to it which i like, especially with all the carbonation, and a distinctive mineral or water profile to it, coppery without being outwardly metallic, maybe light astringency, biscuity grain as it warms works well with this, like hard water or something, and it does stay on the palate just a bit. fine balance, excited feel, good without being great, nowhere near the best pils type we had on this trip, but an easy enough drinker in a setting where the food not the beer was the main focus. would have liked to try more of their stuff...

Lovely flavour. If you want a real honest beer this is good.

L- Rich, golden, low foam/CO2
S- Dry and grainy
T- Dry hops, malts, a slight veggie aspect
F- Dry clean
O- OK with lunch. Not good enough to buy again.
Had with lunch at the notable Scott's All-day brunch+pizza shop on Mill Road, Cambridge. 4.5% 330ml bottle. Contains: Maize and malted barley; it'll be the maize (adjunct!) that gives it the weird veggie tasting aspect. #2052

Aldi, bottle, BBE 02/19
Pours light gold, small head, bright.
Aroma of toasty bread, touch of noble hoppyness.
Taste is similar, no bitterness. Thin body, med carb.
Not particularly good, the one thing a bo-pils needs is loads of saaz character, this has little.
