a dark arger but sort of built like a brown ale, i get some sweet caramelized grain elements in here with the cocoa powder complexion of the chocolate malt and a little bit of a toasted nutty element i found in quite a few of their beers here. a nice malty sweetness in the nose, a mix of the sugars and a more grounded earthy element in the flavor, brought together nicely by the yeast, which stops short of drying this one out, but definitely adds a unique lager yeast flavor to this, a bit bigger and richer overall than we normally see from the imports, but i like the additional substance and complexity, and although it was just a tad on the filling side, overall it was one of the better beers i had in here. chocolate notes in the middle, almond and chestnut as well, a little brown sugar, and a more bready finish. like all the beers in here, i thought this needed a little more carbonation to really feel right for the flavors, but its a solid recipe otherwise, and is something a little different than what a lot of brewers are doing right now. enjoyable brew!
