A: Pours a near opaque black color. A one finger tan head forms that recedes quickly. Light lace is left behind.
S: Big on the black licorice with roasted malts coffee and chocolate. A big but not nuanced aroma, but still hits all the imperial stout notes.
T: Like the nose, black licorice is up front, almost surprisingly so. Roasted malts, light coffee, light chocolate. There is a touch of spicy, slightly bitter hops in the finish.
M/O: A full body with moderate carbonation. With a sticky, viscous, and inky body. Well made for the style, it hits all the high notes and is maybe to much in the licorice and viscous department. Still, and enjoyable sipper.
This is certainly a good imperial stout. One that should do well at the brewpub. A bit to much licorice, and a bit to viscous for me. Which is a miner grip, I am sure that will be a drawing point for others. Well made and enjoyable is all that needs to be said.
