A: Pours a nearly opaque black color. A one finger, creamy looking tan head forms with good retention and plenty of lace left behind.
S: Up front is all fusel alcohol with wood and tannin's. I don't get much stout character coming through. Would like some roasted malts or something to cut through here, but I don't get any.
T: Again, wood and fusel alcohol up front. Some tannin's again. A bit of chocolate and sweetness with even a tart dark cherry flavor lingering.
M/O: A big full body. Slightly sticky, and then that tannin feel. Which I know is a mouthfeel sensation, but I end up getting throughout this offering. A slow sipper that is almost all barrel and alcohol. OK, but on the lower tier for barrel ages stouts.
I have had the base before, and found it to be a good imperial stout. Though that is almost completely covered up by the barrel character. Along with plenty of alcohol, so probably not something I am coming back to that often.
