Poured into a small sampler glass and shared with a few friends.
A - Translucent amber, no head
S - Alcohol, almost nothing else. Maybe a slight hint of sweeter malts
T - Barely has any flavor at all. Big booze notes, a slight, grainy, simple semi-sweet malt note is present. I think I can taste the slightest amount of hops, but its a very earthy hop flavor. Kind of has that rice taste, like someone took a domestic beer (Think Canadian, Bud, or Kokanee)and amped up the alcohol.
M - Medium throughout. No lasting bitterness or anything, really, besides alcoholic heat.
I think one of my friends hit the nail right on the head when they made the following pun:
"Barley wine?! Ha! They should have called it a BARELY wine! Cause it has barely any flavor!"
This is no barely wine, I wouldnt even call it a Strong Ale. I'm not really surprised though, I dont expect much from the people who brew Cariboo...

I am not sure why this got such bad reviews. It is definitely an American barley wine, so the expectations should match this. It's definitely hoppy - reminds me of a fresh Bigfoot from Sierra Nevada.
Smell - Hoppy notes, citrus, caramel.
Taste - Hoppy upfront. Fairly mellow aftertaste. A bit of orange peel.
Mouthfeel - surprisingly creamy, nice.
I would like to see this with age. Definitely could use a few years, but it's tasting nice now.

750 mL bottle
A- slightly cloudy light copper / amber, about one finger of head
S- Fairly strong alcohol, caramel, sweet hop aroma, not very complex for a barley wine
T: Very sweet and malty, a bit hoppy, warming alcohol, overwhelmingly sweet - this did not taste like a typical barley wine at all
M: Medium body, nice warming alcohol, leaves a sweet hoppy flavor behind
O - Not a bad beer, but this is not a typical barley wine, way too sweet for a barley wine, very light tasting as well. If this were a different style of beer I would have rated a little higher but I rated with the expectation of it being a barley wine - fails in comparision to other barley wines I've had
