Pours a cloudy, deep amber coloration with a huge, foamy, lasting head. Smells of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and citrus, tropical, berry hops, with strong notes of strawberry and lighter grapefruit and papaya. Taste is a great balance of biscuity, slightly caramelly malt and bitter, herbal, resinous hops, with fruity red berry, citrus and tropical notes of strawberry, redcurrant, grapefruit and papaya, as well as some pine. Finishes with a medium/strong bitterness and some strawberry, grapefruit and pine lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I really love Callista hops and they come through here very nicely with those red berry notes that are actually pretty dominant, with lighter citrus accents and pine and just a hint of tropical notes, with a good bitterness in the finish as well. While those red berry notes may seem a bit out of place for a West Coast IPA, I think it ultimately works out and I actually enjoyed this a lot more than their Bare Bones WCIPA. While it may be just a tad too sweet for my personal taste, it's really not that bad and the strong bitter and resinous character really makes up for that.
