Pours a cloudy, amber coloration with a large, foamy head. Smell is slightly odd, with some doughy, caramel malt and floral, almost soapy hops with citrus and tropical accents of tangerine and mango. Taste is a decent balance of doughy, slighty caramelly malt and floral, bitter slightly resinous hops, with fruity citrus and tropical notes of tangerine, mango and pineapple, with just a hint of pine. Finshes with a medium/strong bitterness and some tangerine and mango lingering in the aftertaste. Smooth mouthfeel with a medium body and carbonation.
I didn't enjoy this quite as much as I usually do their brews, but I also have a very clear idea of what a West Coast IPA should taste like. While this has quite a good bitterness to it, it's still rather sweet at the same time and way too floral, verging on soapy, for my personal taste, while the resinous pine is not quite as strong and distinct as I would like. I get that strong floral character from Amarillo a lot and generally have to question the choice of hops for a WCIPA in this, but it still makes for an enjoyable enough, bitter IPA that's a welcome distraction from the NEIPAs that most German breweries are churning out.
