a unique coffee berliner that i cant tell if i like or find too weird to like, i really have nothing like it to compare it to in my head, and while i think the coffee and the souring bacteria smell a little funny together, i like the roasted and chocolate notes of the coffee against the light wheat malt and the acidic twang when i drink it, its different. unfortunately, the coffee doesnt taste as fresh as it could be here, maybe corroded or something by the sourness, this is all pretty new to me, these things together, but the potential is high and so is the nuance. i get hazelnut, smoke, fresh zested lemons, and a starchy thing, white ricey more than wheat to me. its simple but it has a lot of layers, light oxidation and green pepper to the coffee that keeps this from really being right on, but dry cocoa and woodiness too. nice carbonation, not too sour to be drinkable, and a fun one to share. these guys are making some really interesting beers, some better than others at this point, but i love the innovation, and being a coffee junkie, appreciate the uniqueness of this idea, recipe, and final product.
