a better than average nut brown, heavy on the nutty. first beer from grand lake, good enough to make me want to try their others. the pour is as much red as it is brown, with an inch of so of khaki colored fluff on top. the nose is medium roasted malts, sweeter chocolate, and a real earthy nutty property that reminds me of the sam smith version. the flavor is similar to that beer as well, with maybe even a more intense nuttiness. almonds and walnuts seem to combine sweet and earthy into a delicious fusion. finish has some residual sugar kicking around that makes it last a little longer on the tongue than it needs to, but the medium body is spot on for drinkability and the carbonation is suitably robust. overall this isn't anything that's going to blow you away, but its a serviceable brown ale which marries the best features of the English and American versions very acceptably. the price is right too.
