For me to give a 2.0 to a cask ale in the taste dept. is saying something. I was very let down by the beers tried at this brewery, espescially when Sue had suggested we go to Bear Republic, I never said I was brilliant. Deep amber color was topped by a foamy head and lacing was nice and clumpy thick. Slight aroma of hop. Then the bad news, taste was very sharp and licorice like, I almost thought it was bad so I asked for the regular draft version. The taste was still there but not as prominent. All this did was prove to me how superior cask ale is and how the warmer temp brings out flavor, sadly this was a flavor I did not want nor like. Most everything else about this beer was great, looked good, good mouthfeel , but the taste. Decided to try another beer and hope for the best.
