i didn’t expect this one to be as big as it was, my first beer from these guys and something pretty intense. it is so thick on the pour and on the palate it almost looks and feels gelatinous. so much rye in here, its like protein rich, like nutritive supplement more than a beverage. the color is pale for the intensity of the flavor, a little burnt orange huge to it, some haze, and a high rising head. it smells rye forward but also sweet, and is especially sugary in the taste at the end, where it lingers long and intense on the palate. the rye is all pale, standard issue, and not unique except for its robustness. the alcohol is also a bit exposed here to me, and kind of combines with the residual sugar at the end to make a beer that’s a very slow sipper at best, despite excellent carbonation. this beer needs something, a bready english ale yeast, an oak treatment, something, its bold but almost for the sake of it, a rebel without a cause or something. a bit of oxidation in here too pushes it almost into rye wine territory. cool beer i guess, but we didn’t love it. Id like to try the littler version for something a bit more drinkable…

Draft at the brewery, quick review from written notes.
Dark orange, slight haze, thin skim and spotty lace.
Taste was plain gross, sickly sweet malts with a weird off flavor burnt popcorn. Flabby feel, sweet with low carb. Couldn’t finish it.
