473ml can - so named after the devastating forest fire that swept through the town of Slave Lake in 2011. But the people rebuilt, hence the moniker here.

This beer pours a clear, medium bronzed amber colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some decent boiling cauldron profile lace around the glass as it quickly evaporates.

It smells of gritty and grainy caramel malt, some musty yeastiness, a few sour red fruity notes, a bit of oily nuttiness, and some plain earthy, herbal, and musky floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a lesser biscuity toffee sweetness, a touch of damp minerality, some muddled dark orchard fruitiness, slightly rancid nuts, and more understated earthy, musty, and dead floral hoppiness.

The carbonation is average in its palate-coating frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and generally smooth, with nothing really getting in the way of an adequately swell time at this particular juncture. It finishes off-dry, the semi-sweet mixed malt presiding.

Overall - this is a fairly well-rendered version of the style, mostly balanced, and full of flavour. A suitable ode to those who still attempt to keep the populace safe from natural disasters, whether always successful or not.
