Bottle 0.66 L.
Golden, clear body with a medium, frothy, white head, mostly diminishing with a fair lacing.
Medium density of medium-sized particles.
Moderate malty (bread, grain) and yeasty (dough) aroma with light hoppy notes (herbal).
Moderate bitter-sweet flavour, nicely balanced; average lasting finish.
Light-to-medium body with a watery texture; soft carbonation.
Well balanced, nice, thirst-quenching beer.

Pivovarna Union "Union Pils"
,33l can, "Best before: 15.05.2019 150518 14:17" and sampled on 27.06.2018
,69€ @ COOP Alleanza 3.0 Soc. Coop., Venezia, IT

Notes via stream of consciousness: Clearly a price point beer at just .69€ I'm not expecting much from this. It's poured a crystal clear golden body beneath a short head of bright white that's faded already. There appears to be some thin lacing left behind where it's dropped but we'll see how it really laces towards the end of the glass. The aroma seems adjunct-like, let me check the label... no - it lists both barley malt and barley though which is a little odd. Regardless, the best I can say is that it's simply a clean, generic beer aroma with some sweetish malt and non-descript hops in the background. Oh, and I see that it also lists both hops and hop extract. Interesting. On to the flavor... as suspected it's basically the same as the aroma. There's more depth to the hops though, and they're softly herbal and a bit floral - that's nice. The malt doesn't fare so well, and it's sweetish and not particularly grainy. I really am surprised by that, I've been a professional brewer for close to 30 years and I've brewed with adjunct and this seems like an adjunct beer to me. Of course I could be wrong. But then again, .69€ per can doesn't exactly scream all-grain either. So, bitterness and balance. It's actually fairly well balanced despite the sweetish malt component. It's got a firm bitterness that appears starting into the middle and then carries through and lingers in the somewhat-dry finish. Some dull herbal hops linger as well, so I guess there's that, you don't always get that in an inexpensive Euro lager. Medium to medium-light in body. Gently crisp. Not a bad mouthfeel at all. Ehhh, it's not the worst and it's not the best. In fact, looking at it on a world-wide scale I'd say it's better than average. But would I buy it again? Not unless I just wanted a cheap beer for walking around with, I certainly wouldn't have this with a meal. Oh, I almost forgot, looking back the lacing was OK.
