Brewed in the style of a traditional Czech pilsner, this recipe uses whole cone Saaz hops in a "first wort hopping" where the wort is racked directly onto hops waiting in the boil kettle.

Had this a few months ago when leftpaw was in Sac for some work shit. Hit this place up bc they were open an hour later than the other beercentric places in the neighborhood. Glad we did.
Right off the bat, locked eyes w this beer on the menu. Poured a golden yellow with good clarity and a solid 1/2" white head. Looked the part. Aroma imparted both a plethora of Saaz hops and lager yeast. I am proud son. Smells and looks good.
Taste, hey hey, crisp, clean, refreshing, hoppy, yeasty, this has plenty of goodness going for it. The body is light and crisp, carbonation high as it should be. Dry. The yeast is much like Pilsner Urquell, which is a compliment (you never know with anti corporate new money hazebois, they could take that as a knock). This is a fun beer with plenty of flavor but also one you could mindlessly knock back 40 oz of. I dunno if they package this, but I would easily pick up a 4 pack of such a thing, it really is the season for this kind of beer. I can get a mega hopped ipa anywhere, but a well hopped, yet traditional Saaz pilsner is definitely harder to find in this day and age.

On-tap at Big Stump Brewing Company, Sacramento, CA
A: The beer is crystal clear light yellow in color and has a light amount of visible carbonation. It poured with a short white head that left a collar around the edge of the glass.
S: Moderate aromas of biscuit malts are present in the nose.
T: The taste has lots of flavors of biscuit and cracker malts along with a moderate amount of bitterness.
M: It feels light- to medium-bodied and very dry on the palate with a moderate amount of carbonation.
O: This is an honest pilsner. I liked the biscuity and cracker malt flavors and all of the dryness on the mouthfeel.
Serving type: on-tap
