Our bar, beer hall, and beer garden is a great place to spend your day. We’re open for lunch and dinner, six days a week. Great beer isn’t the only option. We also have pour-over coffee, housemade mineral water, and soda. And food! Our resident food truck serves amazing Asian drinking food: we’re talking sticky ribs, a Japanese Fried Chicken (JFC) sandwich, and truffle tater tots.

I visited here on a week night while in Austin on business. The brewery was located in South Austin in an outdoor "business collective" called The Yard. There was an artisan distillery next door, art studios, etc. Their small, no frills, indoor taproom looks into a cramped but business-like production area. Outside is a much larger drinking area with picnic tables and strung lights. Everything is simple but functional and reflects management who value good beer over flashy decor. Several food trucks were on site. Service was all at the bar, but the staff were competent and knowledgeable, and easily kept up with the huge crowd that was out in the biergarten for Trivia Night.
The taproom had 18 of their own beers on tap, along with a seltzer and a cider, also brewed in house. The beer styles went beyond the typical staples (but included them as well), with everything from a New Zealand Pilsner and a Berry Sour to a Chocolate Imperial Stout and a Burnt Orange IPA. The beers I sampled ranged from very good to excellent, with my standouts being a Smoked Amber Lager and an English Brown Ale.
Overall, I found this to be a great, no-nonsense, local brewery with above average beer and a popular following. I travel through Austin often, and I will make this one of my regular stops.

It might have been the other brewery visits that blurred the edges of the night, or maybe St. Elmo Brewing itself exists in some ephemeral twilight—a place that is there, then gone, like a mirage in the sprawl of Austin.
A lighted front at dusk, promising cold beer and brief escape. The sideyard is alive, lined with food trucks offering grease and salvation. The outdoor seating stretches wide, a reckless indulgence for a Texas February, where only madmen and desperate smokers dare to linger. The ambience? A haze. A muddled recollection. Not bad, not great, just there. The kind of place that imprints itself softly, without insistence.
But the beer— the beer does not fade. The beer refuses to be forgotten. For a moment, the illusion is complete: you are not in Texas. Not shackled to strip malls and corporate mediocrity. Not drowning in a sea of half-hearted lagers and weary bocks. This could be California. This could be anywhere people actually care about what they drink.
The styles run wild. More than one pilsner—a clear sign of confidence. A Kölsch, precise and clean. IPAs in abundance, because some gods still smile upon us. Each sip lands sharp, distinct, reminding you that this place knows what it’s doing.
And then—as fast as it came, it is gone. The lights fade, the moment dissolves, and the city swallows you back into the night.
Until next time.

Industrial chic, clean and spacious. Nestled alongside a whiskey distillery, sake distillery, and a hard seltzer spot, among other places. There’s a food truck, for fried chicken, and an outdoor patio space, too.

Great place to relax and have some great beers. Plenty of table space inside and out. Dogs and kids bot welcome, they even have water bowls and doggie treats (free). There was a food truck there and cornhole.
