On-draught @ the questionable brewery.
5.5% (according to the brewery, anyway).
Thin, weak, watery, weird notes of cola. Malt backbone is wrong for the style.
Drinkable but wanting.

My wife & I were in Taupo for an Ironman 70.3 while on vacation in New Zealand so we decided to stop in to Crafty Trout since it was just down the road from our hotel.
This beer pours a brown hue (slightly amber, closer to a dark turkey gravy color) that is cloudy with light carbonation visible. The head is creamy and off white in color and dissipates ultra slowly to a thin layer with a neck. 3.75/5 The aroma is sweet and caramel focused along with malted grains. Dark toasted bread, earthy hazelnut, hay, and herbal hops round out the notes in the aroma, but the focus is really on the sweetness with the earthiness acting as a balance. 4/5 The flavor starts out with light, smooth grains and caramel on the front end before transitioning to dark toasted bread and roasted hazelnuts in the middle. Herbal and grassy hops come in on the back end with only a light bitterness that lingers lightly after swallowing. As the beer warms, a bit of earthy peat moss comes out, possibly from the yeast that was used. 3.5/5 This is a smooth and creamy beer that features a light carbonation tickle up front but not burn. It is wet and coating with no drying and no lingering dryness. 4.25/5 This is really a well balanced beer, but the entry of peat moss into the flavor as it warms throws me a bit. Sweet and bitter/hoppy are well balanced here, and quite different from the Viennas that I can get my hands on in Chicago. 3.75/5
