On-draught @ the brewery. 9% ABV porter.
Bit of roast, chocolate malt, dark malt sweetness, layer cake.
If its ABV is correctly and accurately reported (which I strongly doubt), it's surprisingly drinkable for 9%. The cynic in me thinks this brewery needs to audit the precision of their instruments (especially if they're going to keep claiming to brew the strongest "beer" in New Zealand at 32% ABV.

My wife & I were in Taupo for an Ironman 70.3 while on vacation in New Zealand so we decided to stop in to Crafty Trout since it was just down the road from our hotel.
This beer pours a brown, borderline black color that shows off a bit of light carbonation around the very edges of the beer. The head is creamy, tan, and dissipates slowly to a rocky layer with a neck. 3.5/5 The aroma is very muted, unfortunately, but there are light notes of milk chocolate, earthy hops, and dark wheat bread. That's all I could really discern since it is so muted. 3.25/5 The flavor profile is leaps and bounds better than the aroma. Milk chocolate and cold pressed coffee come out straight away, leading into dark wheat bread, toffee and butterscotch. An earthy/nutty note of almond comes out in the middle before a bit of herbal hops comes through, although these hops provide really no bitterness to speak of. After swallowing, a bit of vanilla makes its way onto the palate that is a nice finish. 4/5 This beer is full bodied brew that is smooth, creamy, wet and coating. There is a light carbonation tickle at the very front but it does not last long at all. 4.25/5 This beer actually gets better the more you sip on it, which leads me to believe that it was served a bit cold for the style. Excellent flavor layering and production with a very good complexity to it without being overwhelming. 4/5
