Smooth and easy to drink. Wish it had a little bit more flavor, but this is a very solid stout. At 8 % ABV, you might expect more of a boozy aftertaste but it is well hidden with the balance of flavors in this one.

Had on draft at LoPiez in Davenport 8 Dec 19. Let it warm up a bit. Nothing special when it's cold but it gets much more interesting as it gets warmer.

From a 16oz can stamped 10/23/17. Black color with a thin brown head. Smells of roasted malt and chocolate. Smooth feel. Taste is similar to the smell (malt and chocolate), with a touch of bitterness and a sweet finish. A good medium-strength stout (7% ABV as opposed to 10%+).

Picture a simple watery America stout and then splash some more water in it. Not smooth or creamy at all. Is it a stout? No. Black IPA? No. A confusing lackluster beer at a high price point.

im not sure why i expected a beer with the name trend bucker to be unique, but it really isnt. sure its a bit hoppier than is conventional in most stouts, but it isnt quite a black ipa either, and seems decidedly regular to me despite the name. its a nice stout though, near black from the pint can with an airy off white head rising high and leaving rather delicate looking lace as i drink it down. the aroma is bitter and roasty first, but when it warms up a bit i get a lot more out of it, coffee notes, plenty of chocolate and caramel malt layers, and a piney northwestern hop complexion that is old school and bitter. the flavor matches the nose really well, some charcoal and burnt element to the grain, a lot of unmalted roasted barley providing that i would think. i like all the bitterness, its grounded and super robust, dark chocolate and coffee notes abound, but the body isnt all that heavy so this one goes down pretty easily for what it is. long lasting bitter finish, as much from hops as from grain, i even get some faint earthy spice at the end like there could be a pinch of rye in here. overall really tasty beer, not as original as i thought it might be, but quite well made.

Aroma is dark/roasted malts, chocolate and big stout qualities. The flavor is slightly dark malts, chocolate, mild and a pervasive big acidity in the finish.
