Poured from a growler.
Dry hopped with yerba maté tea leaves.
Appearance - Pours a hazy amber with a finger of bubbly white head.
Smell - bready malts, mild yerba maté leaves, lemon, herbal aromas, and herbal hops. Mild aromas overall.
Taste - Bready malts upfront then the yerba maté leaves come through. The lemon, herbal aromas, and herbal hops finish the brew off.
Mouthfeel - Medium bodied with light to moderate carbonation. Finishes with a lingering sweetness from the yerba maté.
Overall - A unique approach to the APA style by dry-hopping with yerba maté. This is a sessionable ale that delivers on the flavours of yerba maté, herbal hops, and bready malts. Some minor adjustments in the aroma and mouthfeel would make this outstanding. For those that are expecting a bitter hop experience (West Coast style), this isn't the intent. Rather, having the yerba maté as the main hop base allows for a more subdued hop bitterness. The folks at High Line have certainly done their homework with this one.
