Right out of the gate, the upstart brewers at Rock House discovered the mystic of hops. Rolling out their Double Kick Drum celebrates the more succulent, fruity and smoothly bitter side of imperial IPA to near perfection.
Deep amber and casting golden margins against the light, the beer engulfs the senses with caramelized citrus and tropical fragrances. Against the tongue, those caramelized malts bring a savory sweetness with suggestions of graham cracker and honey.
But then the beer blooms beautifully on the middle palate, coming alive with those branch ripe juicy flavors. Mandarin orange, red grapefruit and a hint of lime frame the citrusy taste while the tropical side consists of mango, passionfruit, pineapple and apricot. Smoothly bitter to finish, the beer trends dry and allows an herbal sassafras, freshly shaven pine and mint-like quality to permeate its bitterness.
Medium full on the palate, the beer never dries to completion, rather supports the fruity hop impressions with its succulence seemingly of fructose. Bright, bold and citrusy, the beer extends with a bittersweet aftertaste of fruit rinds and gently muddled pine needles.
