Using what's best about Kentucky's whisky and hemp heritage, the brewers at Rock House turn to hemp seed and rye to complement the citrusy tang of their modest bodied brown ale.
Uncle Jon's Brown pours..., well, brown; dark brown at that, skirted with a light espresso froth and nearly opaque. Its scent is earthen and sweet with bold notes of chocolate, toffee, coffee and pepper grains. Flavors build upon the sweetness with bittersweet chocolate morsels, caramel and ethiopian coffee with those soil, pepper and soft java flavors.
Firmly malty, the ale's sweetness softens and the toasty, coffee and grainy grit of the beer springs to life. Peppercorn and the light husken astringency of rye balance the lasting sweetness and add a depth of bitterness and char all their own. Hops lend a clean orange and pine bitterness to hemp seed which has its own nutty, buttery and spicy grassiness by itself.
Medium bodied but trending full with its low lying carbonation that allows for full saturation of the tastebuds. Light desserts persist with the ongoing bittersweet chocolate, medium coffee and premiere nuttiness. A linger of spicy rye and sweet toast balance the light alcohol as the ale trends toast, sweet and satisfyingly dry.
