Easing into the autumn season, the brewers of Rock House greet the season between hot and cold with a mild mannered amber ale that's sturdier than summer beer but not as robust as those needed in winter.
Rusty amber and cast in a medium haze, House of Mirrors releases a fine mesh froth that looks the part of British cask ale. Toasted malt aromas surround a caramelized, crusty scent with hints of citrus, apple and butterscotch. Nutty and toffee rich, the beer's early palate picks up on deep caramelization with a toasted taste of peanut brittle.
As the malts hold serve through the middle palate, the hops grow to rival the medium strength malt with medium strength grapefruit, orange peel and red apple. Fruitiness turns spicy and bitter as the ale rolls along the tongue, developing a strong resinous finish of pine, pepper and an overall earthy grassiness.
Medium bodied, the beer's light carbonation leaves the ale weighing densely on the tastebuds dulling the hops and giving strong credence to malt sweetness and weight. A light alcohol spice adorns the finish as the ale trails medium long with piney hop resins and a tact of cola.
