So, when your gherkin around in the brewhouse, your sour Gose ale can often get caught in a pickle. And that's the exact dilemma that the brewers at Rock House found themselves in as they somehow still get paid to make a spicy pickle Gose.
Pale straw and medium in its haze, Still Getting Paid carries a short lived foam of part-froth and part-fizz across the nose. Immediately enlivened by the floral scent of herb, spice, citrus and melon, the sour ale soon leads in with a gentle taffy sweetness with a roundness of sourdough and cereal.
Seemingly more of honeydew and watermelon than anything cucumber, the undertow of acidity gives rise to a lime and lemon sourness. A slight candied taste is soon turned over to a more herbal taste, seemingly of basil as much as it does of dill. A tangy and peppery acidity is given plumpness with roundness of salinity.
Medium light in body, the beer is perhaps slightly more sour than traditional Gose, but not quite as sour as Berlinerweiss. Its juicy melon flavor finishes the session with a highly drinkable, refreshing and zesty sense overall, and with a brief afterglow of pickled watermelon brine.
