Here we are with my first brew from Skyroc, a brewery just one town over from me. And considering there's none in my town, this is likely the closest brewery to my place, just 10 minutes away. I'm honestly surprised I haven't tried anything from them yet. This one definitely sounds interesting. I haven't had many winter warmers to begin with, but I haven't heard of any brewed with maple. I'm wondering how this will play off the more traditional spice notes of the style
Pours a cloudy deep amber/brown with a slight red glow and 2 fingers of light tan head that slowly fades to a thin cap and leaves decent lacing
Immediately I'm struck by the sweetness in the nose, but it's not at all artificial, if not a bit one dimensional. I'm picking up on aromas of sticky maple, brown sugar, toasted malt, raisin, and a touch of cinnamon
While this was very sweet in the aroma, the taste finds a better balance with the spice and malt. On the front end of the sip I'm tasting cinnamon heat, citrusy hops, toffee, and dark bread. The swallow brings notes of nutmeg, dark bready malt, dark fruit, and a long aftertaste of sweet maple
A medium body pairs with very mild carbonation, resulting in a slick but easy drinking beer. Finishes mostly dry with a light spice to offset the maple
This was actually really good for a small local brewery, the type that doesn't usually have the best track record. I'll get this again
