my first beer from these guys and a gabf medal awarded take on a hefeweizen, pretty solid beer, drinkable and true to style while also having its own personality, well done! bright yellow almost school bus colored in the glass under a nice inch of micro bubble white head, just a little bit hazy but looks the part. aroma here is awesome, its familiar but also distinct, banana notes for sure but its not as high tone and assertive as it often is, i wonder if this was fermented a little cooler, and it almost has more of a clean saison spiciness than the notes i expect from hefe yeast, white pepper more than coriander or clove, and an herbal freshness i am not used to in the style. i also like how forward the wheat is, pale and earthy and basic but its not crowded out by a too intense yeast profile and thus this is more balanced than a lot of these are, fresh tasting too, which is not normally a point of consideration in these unless there is an issue. the flavor has some cool fruitiness too, orange and lemon suggestions, white grape even, and a nice soft texture from the wheat, almost creamy and very well carbonated too, which is essential for me with this style. overall a really nice beer, i see why this won a medal, and it has me keen to try more brews from bankhead. very well executed and drinkable!
