1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store, the latest hoppy pale ale from this gypsy brewing, erm, 'outfit', this time hopped with the Citra varietal. Also, named after the brewer's eldest son.

This beer pours a mildly hazy, medium copper amber colour, with three fingers of puffy, rather loosely foamy, and bubbly ecru head, which leaves some streaky volcanic ejecta lace around the glass as it evenly subsides.

It smells of estery and mildly dank pine resin, biscuity caramel malt, some tame domestic citrus peel, muddled tropical fruity notes, a touch of wayward son yeastiness, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is bready and doughy caramel malt, a touch of hard water flintiness, zingy blood orange and red Texas grapefruit citrus flesh, fading wet stone path notes, and some testy leafy, weedy, and piney verdant hoppiness.

The carbonation is somewhat reserved, but still elicits a supportive enough frothiness, the body a decent middleweight, and generally smooth, with a wee airy creaminess arising as things warm up a bit around here. It finishes off-dry, the balance between malt and single guest hop hard to deny (not that I'm trying).

Overall, this is another very satisfying and patently drinkable hoppy pale ale from this still nascent Cowtown brewer - Citra is always a good bet, of course, but it's made to do some heavy lifting here, and everything just kind of works out. Very glad to have another glass of this to go with my last pizza of 2016 - New Year's resolutions can wait just a bit longer, eh?
