1L howler from Sherbrooke Liquor store, after just barely missing getting to (re)meet the brewer himself. Oh well. A mixed malt, Mosaic/Equinox lupulin powder brew - ok.
This beer pours a murky, medium golden banana peel colour, with two fingers of puffy, loosely foamy, and bubbly off-white head, which leaves a few instances of cannonball splash aftermath lace around the glass as things quickly move along.
It smells of mildly dank pine resin, muddled domestic citrus rind, grainy and bready pale malt, a hint of earthy yeastiness, and more leafy, weedy, and floral green hop bitters. The taste is gritty and grainy pale malt, mixed and matched tropical fruit notes, lesser orange/white grapefruit/lemon peel essences, and more leafy, herbal, and well perfumed (and not in the typical sense) floral verdant hoppiness.
The carbonation is fairly tame in its insouciant frothiness, the body a solid middleweight, and mostly smooth, with a minor airy creaminess kicking in once we attain a modicum of warmth 'round these parts. It finishes off-dry, the general citrus fleshy and juicy character running the lingering table.
Overall, this is a rather full-feeling, and engaging sub-version of the style (the well-lowered ABV not noticeable in the least), one which hits the majority of the hop buttons necessary to make an aficionado squeal just a little. Yeah, this is probably the most drinkable iteration of a 'session' 'IPA' that I have yet to make the acquaintance of - no pun intended, Patrick!
