Less hop flavor and bitterness than a Pilsner, the main highlight of the Helles is its bready, malty character. It’s malty, balanced, easy-drinking character has earned it the sobriquet “liquid bread”, and it is often served for breakfast. Helles retains less alcohol than a pilsner, averaging between 4.5-5 percent; they are more full bodied than the Pilsner. Chuckanut Helles has won Gold medals from the NABA 2013, WA Beer Awards 2013, GABF 2011, Silver from the NABA 2011.

Just a clean, crisp, well done easy drinking helles. Incredible clarity. Snappy finish. My introduction to Chuckanut. Enjoyed on tap at the P.nut satellite location.

What the Helles is a Helles?
Crystal clear straw color capped with near white 2 finger dense head and features active carbonation. Looks good.
The aroma is mild for me but I do get a grassy bit, which perplexed me a little. It smelled good, just not what I expected.
The taste followed, started with the grassy hops flavors before the biscuit centric malts showed up. Very clean and refreshing!
The feel was excellent, I think I drank it much too quickly.
Excellent lager, thanks Frank!

Pours a crystal clear golden color. Thick frothy, velvety white head forms on the beer. The head slowly recedes until just a thin film of foam remains on the beer.
Aroma has notes of doughy malts, sweet bread and some wet hay.
Taste follows the nose with sweet white bread, some hay, and a light grassy hop presence.
Feel is light, a bit chewy, smooth and refreshing. Crisp, bright carbonation.
Overall a very nice, easy drinking helles lager.

Can from P.Nut.
A clear straw yellow with a dense white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is just a confident expression of Munich malt, soft, bready, doughy and clean with a dusty, lemony hop profile. So clean. The palate opens clean and bitter with the hops lending a snappy counter to the richly doughy malt backbone. The mid-palate is where this beer shines, as the flavors form a continuum, clean, effortless and just together. Drying, bitter, clean on the finish, this is majestic.

Had on tap. Cloudy pale golden body with two fingers of white foam with trace layers of lacing. Earthy hops with grass accents atop a typical bready helles body. Taste adds some doughy malt to the mix, but still hoppier for a helles. Crisp, dry, higher carb yet smooth, decently bready with a hint of paleness. Solid hoppier helles

It pours a perfectly transparent straw color topped with an inch and a half of tiny-bubbled head that is maintaining a nice blanket of suds as I drink through it. The aroma is a familiar doughy malt with some crisp cracker. As I drank I began to notice more grassy hop notes. Upon first sip my suspicions are confirmed that this is a pale lager of some kind. There is a nice balance of flavor throughout the glass. The hops add some grassy and spicy notes. It has a nice doughy malt backbone, but with only a touch of sweetness. It's closing in on a medium body, but isn't quite there in my estimation. The carbonation was well lively on my palate. All in all, a nicely balanced easy drinking lager.

Served On-Tap
A — Pours an incredibly clear and bright pale yellow color into the glass. Some quick rising bubbles lead to a white and thin head of foam on-top of the beer, not much left behind in terms of lacing, but it still looks great.
S — Smell is light, slightly sweet, refreshing, clean and clear. Nice light malty sweetness, balanced with a slight hint of earthy green hops.
T — Taste is mild and reminiscent of the note, definitely get the sweet malt notes, balanced with lightly bitter hops, and rounded out with the signature house lager yeast. Clean
M — Light in body, easy drinking, refreshing.
O — Nice overall, one of the lighter options from Chuckanut, still delicious, just a little light for me.

at the brewery, a nice crisp refreshing brew on a hot summer evening...well made with very clean flavors but personally, I would have liked a little more bready/malty goodness, depth, and body.
