This delightful California Common ale uses a blend of old world Noble hops and Australian Galaxy hops with a mix of German and Skagit malts for a smooth malty center. The use of Triticale Skagit malts (wheat/rye hybrid) makes for an uncomplicated and refreshing hoppy beer with a dry finish. California Common Ale (AKA Steam Beer) is brewed with lager yeast but fermented at ale temperatures. Made in support of Farm to Pint month in the Skagit Valley and in celebration of Skagit tulips!

Can from P.Nut.

A clear orange with a dense, white head with good retention and lacing. The nose is loaded with dry hop character, so much so that it overwhelms the base fruity California common. The grain, a spicy, sharp malt character, also overpowers the yeast. The palate has a blend of hop flavors, fruity, citrusy, new world and potent, all of which renders the lovely yeast profile a secondary character. Drying, fruity with a nice rye note. Decent.

Light and creamy ivory head. Clear, medium golden amber appearance. Malty, herbal tinged, floral aroma, with a tiny hint of pine and whiff of grapefruit peel. Good, medium light toasted and caramelized malt base, with a floral, mineral like, ever so light, citra hop note, in the background, for the taste. Hardly any hop bite and a medium, almost creamy mouthfeel. Finish is a combination of floral, mineral and touch of grapefruit peel.

16.9oz bottle (no visible date) poured into 14oz teku. Poured a bright, clean, clear medium gold color with about an inch-and-a-half of bright white head that had moderate retention and very light lacing.

Bold grassy and floral hops at the front of the nose, with earthy grains in the background.

Pretty similar on the tongue, with a bit of sharpness from the Skagit Valley Triticale malt.

The body was just a bit on the light side of medium, smooth, crisp, and had a medium-dry finish.

Drinkability was good, i could see having a few pints of this during tulip season.

Overall, a very nice brew, most certainly worth your time if you see it.
