Dark reddish brown with plenty of foam in the tall goblet. Crisp sensation and light bodied rather than thickly malty. Appley aroma with that distinct touch of smoke. Brewer says it's made with German beechwood smoked malt.
Flavor is a very light smoke that lingers in the aftertaste, but it's thoroughly drinkable. One of the more friendly and subtle smoked beers I"ve had. Warm roasted malt with a buttery note. From the 32 oz growler purchased at the South Nut brewery at Skagit County airport.

At the Brewpub on 2-16-12
A - Served a dark brown with a light tan head.
S - Smokey and slghtly fishy.
T - Similar, but much stronger woody smoke flavors. A fishy but a good finish.
D - Light body, and another low ABV. Good Carbonation.
O - Smokey for sure, not sure if this is where they wanted this one to be.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a lightly translucent brown, with a bit of a reddish tint on the edges, and had less than 1/4 inch of tan head that had low retention and very light lacing.
The aroma was nicely grainy with a bit of roastiness in the background and just a faint bit of smoke noticeable. On the tongue the smoke had a more prominent presence, but not overpoweringly so. The grains and roast flavors provided a nice base for the smoked malts and the smoke lingered a bit on the finish.
The beer was nicely carbonated, but not overly bubbly. The body was full without being heavy and had a good clean finish. Drinkability was very good, I had two pints in a row with getting palate fatigue. Overall, this a very nice take on the style, certainly worth trying if you see it on tap.
