Very dark, near black in the tall nonic with an off-white foam. Pleasantly sprightly on the tongue and the carbonation lasts well.
This has just enough sweetness, which I think is the ideal Porter taste. Richly roasted malt, but more of a dark caramel flavor. Some burnt sugar but not much of the charred grain. Smooth and lean-bodied with a touch of bitterness in the aftertaste.
An altogether pleasant and warm-toned quaff. I am impressed with the quality of these traditional German-style brews from Chuckanut. On tap at the brewery restaurant.

Served in straight pint glass. Poured a very deep brown, just shy of black, color with a bit of reddish tint around the edges. The beer had a bit under 1/2 inch of medium tan head with low retention and medium lacing.
The aroma featured a nice, solid roast scent, perhaps a bit much even, and had a solid malt foundation. Just a light and gentle hop presence showed up. On the tongue, it's pretty much the same story. The roast is the first and last thing you taste, with the malt and hops having very subordinate roles. I would have given a higher score for the taste, but the roast lingered far too long, especially at the back of the tongue, and left me with a slightly burnt taste.
The body was pretty good, full without being heavy, smooth, even, and with a nicely dry finish. Drinkability was good, except for the lingering roast, I really enjoyed my pint. Overall, a pretty good beer, not one I'll drink a lot of during the Summer, but if this brew is still around when the rain comes back, it'll be in regular rotation. Along with a bit of water to cleanse the palate. Worth trying if you see it.
