A hoppy, strong IPA made in the British tradition. Floral dry hop aroma is followed by persistent kettle hop bitterness. Biscuit-like, caramel malt sweetness balances the flavor while adding depth and body.

Cask and bottle conditioned ales are products of natural fermentation and natural carbonation. Nuanced flavor notes are best enjoyed between 52° and 57°. Some sediment is to be expected.

Pours a pale amber orange color with a cream colored head that leaves some nice lace.

Spicy yeast, tropical fruit, citrus, toasted bread malt in the nose.

Taste is bitter hop orange and lemon with sweet peach, spicy earthy yeast, and whole grain malted bread backbone. It is deliciously complex and beautifully balanced.

The dark amber pour (SRM 7-8) is hazy with a very long-lasting, dense, off-white head. Dark copper highlights accentuate below thick patches of lace on the sides of my Spieglau IIPA glass.

The aroma is similar to sweet pine or spruce with light floral accents. Caramel forms the background.

The flavor has much more caramel than biscuit and hops follow. The sweet and bitter balance is delicate. There is a strange presence of Juicy Fruit gum as well. The finish is long, including all the flavors noted above and amplified bitterness. The end of the finish has a surprise sweetness that becomes more pronounced with warmth.

This is a full-bodied beer with a soft, smooth texture. Carbonation is fine and ample, while the alcohol is as expected.
Merri Man is a nice beer. Yet another pleasant surprise from a small brewery. I enjoyed this one on a cold, early Autumn day.
