This delicious Northern English Brown Ale is a flavorful, malt-focused beer with hints of nuttiness, biscuit, and caramel. Featuring gentle malt sweetness in this overall balanced beer. More malty than a British Bitter with the malt flavors coming through from the darker malts, stronger than our dark mild with less roastiness than an English Porter. Even though the malt sweetness and hop bitterness are evident, both are restrained and neither overwhelms the other.

The one-inch, creamy beige head lasts a minute before settling to an eighth of an inch. The beer is very dark and clear, copper-brown.
Peanut shells dominate the aroma, followed by fresh bread dough.
The flavor is reminiscent of wheat bread and crackers. I also perceived Brazil and hazel nuts. The finish is mild and long. Bitterness slightly outweighs the sweetness, though both are mild. Warmth brings out a hint of coffee, with toasted malt.
The texture is soft and creamy against a medium body. Light, fizzy carbonation lifts a hint of alcohol.
Bertie's is an easy Brown Ale, ideal for a session of casual conversation after work. It will work with any season, and I imagine it pairing with cheese or bar snacks. Perhaps try it with chicken wings.
