This Wee Heavy is an almost clear, copper-amber, with a translucent quality. One inch of creamy almond head slowly settles to a blanket. Patchy lace is left over an SRM 10-13 beer inside a Gordon thistle glass.
The aroma is rich with sweet caramelized malt and a hint of roast. Faint hops have whispers of pine straw and cut grass. If one looks for it, peat aroma shows up and becomes very obvious, while still a background characteristic.
The flavors are remarkably close to the nose, with caramelized malt throughout. The peat and hops maintain control over the sweetness. Figs and raisins work well with brown sugar. A mild, lingering finish alluringly invites another sip.
A full body and soft, chewy texture that almost resembles heavy cream. Light carbonation brushes the palate, while alcohol tries to lighten things up within expectations.
This is a superb Scottish Ale. At 6.3% alcohol, it is clearly more than could be considered a sessionable beer. Unless…one sips and enjoys it with good friends, and maybe pub games. I imagine this would pair well with a venison burger. I have a friend who would especially love this beer.
