Work Release is brewed with Pilsner malt, American 2 row barley and flaked barley. We achieved a very rich malt character with a beautiful golden color. This style is hard to nail, because of the tendency to be toward a sweeter finish. We fermented ours more completely, and it keeps it balanced. We also hopped it to the level of a Continental Pilsner, with Hallertau Tradition. This gives it an assertive bitterness and nice hop throughout. The apparent alcohol adds a bit of “heat” that is apparent in the first couple of sips. Finally the yeast provides some earthiness and mineral flavors associated with lager yeast. An excellent beer paired with just about any cuisine, but loves to run up against spicy Asian flavors. A great beer to put away and age for a few months.

Golden body; slight amount of carbonation; one-finger thick head. Pale and crystal malt sweetness on the nose; light toastiness; a suggestion of honey. Bread crust flavors with a dominating bitterness from the middle way into the finish. Medium-heavy body; dry, biting finish.

This beer would be okay except there seems to be a rather harsh, metallic, biting bitterness that ruins the overall appeal.
