When creating fruity sour ales, the fruit combinations can seem like a simple roll of the dice. But when its the fruits of mango, cherry and pineapple that land, it's winner, winner, smoothie dinner!
Except its smoothie dessert as Hoosier Brewing's Spin To Win Series, Dealer's Choice lands in the glass with a rusty maroon, mauve and tarnish appearance. Visually dense like milkshake, the striking scent of fruit puree, tangy acidity and a stewed candy scent that frames a fruit smoothie scent. Candy sweet to start, an early palate of fruit glaze, fruit syrups and luscious smoothie character sets up a fruit cocktail of a beer.
And its that flavor that slides right along the middle palate and soaks the tastebuds in rich fruit purees of cherry, mango and pineapple in a tropical, citrus and pitted fruit rollup blend. The natural acidity of the ale offers a quick reprieve from the simple syrups and links up seamlessly withe the fruit's acidity to apply nuanced flavors of lime, lemon, white wine and dry cider. Lightly peppery, the late taste trends smoothie-like with peppery pectins and fruit skins playing a balancing act.
Full bodied for sour ale and creamy, plush and weighted, the beer drinks like a true fruit smoothie with a vinous alcohol punch. Delicious, but the effects of the palate runs quickly tiring and lumbered for an unusual beer drinking experience.
